Student Assistants

The Student Assistant (SA) position interacts daily with first-year and transfer students, their families, University administrators, faculty and staff.

Description

Student Assistants will:

Staff the front desk during business hours (8 a.m.–5 p.m.) in Mary Gates Hall 120 or in HUB 141 (7:30 a.m.–3 p.m.)
- Summer: Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Provide a friendly and professional experience to any customer as they interact with our office
Respond to inquiries about the UW from students and their families by phone, email, and text
Establish an understanding of and assist customers with issues relating to NSTP programs, services, policies, and procedure
Become familiar with program registration processes and answer questions as needed
Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the NSTP office

Required qualifications

Full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student at the University of Washington in Seattle
Knowledge of, or an aptitude and willingness to learn about, a wide variety of UW student resources and services
Ability to serve as a positive and professional representative of NSTP when communicating with offices across campus
Ability to receive constructive feedback
Highly organized and detail oriented
Strong oral and written communication skills of the English language
Good academic and conduct standing prior to and throughout the entire term of employment

Desired skills and abilities

Ability to work for the entire year in which hired, including summer quarter.
Fall, winter, and spring quarters: Ability to work 5–10 hours per week.
Summer quarter: Ability to work 10–20 hours per week.
Experience with administrative support tasks (e-mail, phone, texting, Zoom)

Compensation and employment benefits

Hourly wage: $21.30 (effective January 1, 2026)
