Advising & Orientation (A&O) Student Coordinators (StuCos) are part of a team that supports the planning and delivery of A&O programs. They work closely with professional and student staff to make sure incoming students have a smooth transition. 

StuCos serve as paraprofessionals, leading A&O programming and managing the recruitment, training and supervision of Virtual Orientation Leaders. They also help with other programs as needed, providing high-quality support to first-year and transfer students.

Overview

Hourly wage: $21.30 (effective January 1, 2026)

Start/end dates: Week of October 6 2025–October, 2026

Student Employees cannot work more than 19.5 hours per week while classes are in session, including finals week, but can work up to 39.5 hours during breaks in winter and spring as agreed upon by your supervisor. 

Hours available: 

  • Autumn quarter (2025): 10 hrs/wk
  • Winter quarter: 10–15 hrs/wk
  • Spring quarter: 10–15 hrs/wk
  • Summer quarter: 39.5 hrs/wk
  • Autumn quarter (2026): 5 hrs/wk

Leave time (including vacation and sick time) may impact hours worked each week.

This position is an in-person position in MGH 120 with occasional work from home opportunities if needed and as agreed upon by your supervisor.

Summary of work 

The A&O Logistics StuCo will:

A&O program (40%)

  • Develop technical and administrative skills within Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Visual Zen, and other internal UW databases/systems.
  • Manage A&O preparation processes (all quarters): prep calendar (internal operations schedule), auditing/uploading student rosters, manage student lists from campus partners, track student scheduling.
  • Organize and audit A&O spreadsheets.
  • Help manage the A&O reservation system (Visual Zen), assist students in making reservations.
  • Manage Zoom logistics, including creating meetings, updating alternate hosts and other settings, monitoring the Zoom logistics calendar to make sure all events hosted in NSTP Zoom accounts do not conflict, and more. 
  • Support the A&O Program StuCo in developing engagement activities for Virtual Orientation Leaders.
  • Manage attendance processes during A&O with Virtual Orientation Leaders: Work with Student Assistants to message students and update A&O reservations.
  • Support Virtual Orientation Leaders and the A&O Program StuCo throughout the summer, including but not limited to leading A&O sessions, taking session attendance, leading Zoom check-ins with VOLs, and leading VOL student-outreach time.
  • Other NSTP duties: Including but not limited to providing feedback on documents, presenting during student trainings, and supporting live Zoom rooms.
  • Support the planning and delivery of all programs in NSTP in line with the functions of these roles and the StuCos’ developmental interests.
  • Support with spring GEN ST 370 grading

Communications and office support (55%)

  • Work with the A&O Programs and Systems Student Coordinators to support campus partners and Virtual Orientation Leaders during A&O programming.
  • Manage website updates, including but not limited to the orientation website and student agendas.
  • Manage student transition communications: create communication guides and support in responding to inquiries, help manage Mongoose texting platform and student call lists
  • Support Student Assistants (SA): assist with front desk operations, organize SA trainings, participate in SA meetings during A&O program as needed
  • Manage the UW A&O and NSTP emails and calendars.

Recruitment (5%)

  • Support in the selection of the Virtual Orientation Leader team, including interview support and the selection process.

This is an in-person position that works from Mary Gates Hall, Suite 120. Occasional work-from-home opportunities are available as agreed upon with your supervisor.

Required qualifications

  • Full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student at the University of Washington in Seattle.
  • Enrolled in no more than 5 credits in summer quarter.
  • Good academic standing and conduct before and throughout your time in this role.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
