Advising & Orientation (A&O) Student Coordinators (StuCos) are part of a team that supports the planning and delivery of A&O programs. They work closely with professional and student staff to make sure incoming students have a smooth transition

StuCos serve as paraprofessionals, leading A&O programming and managing the recruitment, training and supervision of Virtual Orientation Leaders. They also help with other programs as needed, providing high-quality support to first-year and transfer students.

Overview

Hourly wage: $21.30 (effective January 1, 2026)

Start/end date: Week of Oct. 6. 2025–Oct. 2026 

Student Employees cannot work more than 19.5 hours/ week while classes are in session including finals week, but can work up to 39.5 hours during breaks as agreed upon by your supervisor. 

Hours available: 

  • Autumn quarter: 10–15 hrs/wk
  • Winter quarter: 10–15 hrs/wk
  • Spring quarter: 10–15 hrs/wk
  • Summer quarter: 39.5 hrs/wk

Leave time (including vacation and sick time) may impact hours worked each week.

This position is an in-person position in MGH 120 with occasional work from home opportunities if needed and as agreed upon by your supervisor.

Summary of work 

The A&O Systems StuCo will:

A&O program admin (45%)

  • Track all participant engagement in videos, sessions, and webinars for reporting purposes.
  • Support with spring GEN ST 370 grading
  • Work with the A&O Programs and Logistics Student Coordinators to support campus partners and Virtual Orientation Leaders during A&O programming, including Issues Chats.
  • Support and assist the StuCo for A&O logistics in their tasks and projects.
  • Support Virtual Orientation Leaders and A&O Program StuCo throughout the summer, including but not limited to leading A&O sessions, taking session attendance, leading Zoom check-ins with VOLs, and leading VOL student-outreach time.
  • Manage the UW A&O email.

A&O programs systems support (45%)

  • Help manage the A&O reservation system (Visual Zen), assist students in making reservations.
  • Coordinate the collection, organization, captioning, and basic editing of all A&O media, including slides, videos, and photographs.
  • Assist in A&O campus-partner presentation sign-ups
  • Work with the A&O Program Manager for Academic Partnerships to provide VOL’s with feedback during the summer.
  • Use and build technical and administrative skills within Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Visual Zen, and other internal UW databases/systems.

Recruitment (5%)

  • Support in the selection of the Virtual Orientation Leader team including interview support and the selection process.

Other (5%)

  • Serve and lead the First Year & Transfer (FYT) Student Advisory Council
  • Other NSTP duties: Including but not limited to providing feedback on documents, presenting during student trainings, and supporting live Zoom rooms
  • Support ProStaff in the development of office-wide assessments within Qualtrics and Visual Zen 
  • Actively engage with office activities and provide feedback on our procedures
  • Support the planning and delivery of all programs in NSTP in line with the functions of these roles and the StuCo’s developmental interests.

Required qualifications

  • Full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student on the Seattle campus
  • Enrolled in classes while employed. If working in the summer, must be enrolled in classes for the fall.  
  • Good academic standing and conduct before and during your entire time in this role

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating detailed written communication that is accessible to different audiences
  • Ability to remain curious, intentionally reflect, and generate creative suggestions
  • Open to balancing several points of feedback, okay with public edits
  • Flexible when working on collaborative and independent projects
  • Willingness to seek help and ask questions
  • Ability to work with StuCo team over long-term projects
  • understanding of how to build community within a team
  • Experience working with NSTP as a student employee, peer educator, or volunteer
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and Google Drive, specifically Excel/Sheets.
