New Faculty and Staff Resources

As a new member of UW's faculty or staff, you have an integral role in supporting students during their transition to university. Please review the following information to learn about new-student-specific resources and feel welcome to share them with your students.

The UW is a unique institution that offers an abundance of resources for students to build their community and find belonging. Students can participate in one of over 1,000+ registered student organizations, choose from 180 academic majors to study, and participate in research at one of UW's 280 research labs. With countless opportunities to get involved, it can be overwhelming for students to navigate all of what UW has to offer. How NSTP communicates with students

New Student & Transfer Programs (NSTP) engages with all new undergraduate students prior to beginning classes at the UW. Our office has a strategic communication plan to be intentional in how we reach incoming students. Faculty resources for supporting new and transfer students

Resources NSTP sends to new students

All students are required to complete Advising & Orientation (A&O) to learn about key UW resources and enroll in classes for the academic year. During the self-guided portion of A&O, students are introduced to the University through the Husky Guide and Husky Foundations Course.

Husky Guide: Students are mailed a physical copy of the Husky Guide in their welcome package. It highlights important tips and resources that students can reference throughout their time at the UW. Click here to access this year's Husky Guide and learn the essential information all students review when beginning their UW journey.

Husky Foundations Course: This self-guided course includes introductory content for all incoming students to give them an understanding of how the University is structured and increase their knowledge about critical resources for the first year.

Reaching out to students

Interested in sharing your events, classes, and opportunities with new students? There are several ways that you can reach out to students:

Access our opt-in interest lists: students can elect to join NSTP's opt-in interest lists centered around academic, career, signature experiences, and student success. You can request to access the interest lists containing student contact information here.
Host a Dawg Daze event: Dawg Daze (Welcome Weeks) occurs annually in September before the beginning of the academic year. Thousands of students participate in events hosted by departments, offices, and student organizations around campus. You can find more information about creating and hosting your own event here.
