Student Transition Navigators

The Student Transition Navigator (STN) position interacts daily with first-year and transfer students, their families, University administrators, faculty and staff. You will work within all of the programs in NSTP and serve as a mentor to students transitioning to the University.

Description

Student Transition Navigators will:

Staff the front desk during business hours (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) in Mary Gates Hall 120 or in HUB 141 (10:00 a.m.-5 p.m.)
- Summer: Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Provide a friendly and professional experience to any customer as they interact with our office
Respond to inquiries about the UW from students and their families by phone, email, and text
Be a mentor via the Husky Peer Mentorship Program to 15-20 mentees
Provide Zoom support during Advising and Orientation including Family Orientation and be willing to host “Ask me Anything” sessions with new students
Support and create engaging events in the Commuter and Transfer Commons to promote sense of belonging
Participate in Dawg Daze logistics by supporting incoming students and campus partners throughout the summer and during welcome week.
Establish an understanding of and assist customers with issues relating to NSTP programs, services, policies, and procedure
Work collaboratively with other Student Transition Navigators and NSTP staff on detail oriented projects relating to several different programs
Become familiar with program registration processes and answer questions as needed
Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the NSTP office and CTC and help maintain organized, and clean spaces

Required qualifications

Full time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student on the Seattle campus
Knowledge of, or an aptitude and willingness to learn about, a wide variety of UW student resources and services
Desire to support students as they transition to the UW
Ability to serve as a positive and professional representative of NSTP when communicating with offices across campus
Ability to receive constructive feedback
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong oral and written communication skills of the English language
Good academic and conduct standing prior to and throughout the entire term of employment
Ability to work for the entire year in which hired, including summer quarter AND remain on staff for a least one additional year

Desired skills and abilities

Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters: Ability to work 7-15 hours per week.
Summer Quarter: Ability to work 10-25 hours per week.
Experience with administrative support tasks (e-mail, phone, texting, Zoom)

Compensation and employment benefits

Hourly wage: $21.30 (effective January 1, 2026)
